Naza - The Late Tan Sri SM Nasimuddin

More than 6,000 people were at the Masjid Wilayah, Jalan Duta here to pay their last respects to Tan Sri SM Nasimuddin SM Amin who died of lung cancer in Los Angeles (LA), in the United States (US) on Thursday.

The body of the founder and chairman of the Naza Group, which was flown from LA, arrived at the mosque grounds at 1.15pm accompanied by family members and close friends.

The body was later placed at the multipurpose hall of the mosque to enable dignitaries, corporate leaders and members of the public who had waited from 12 noon to pay their last respects to Nasimuddin.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi was among those who paid their respects.

Others included former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Zulhasnan Rafique, former Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, and former Science, Technology and Innovations Minister Datuk Seri Jamaluddin Jarjis.
Officials and players from the Kuala Muda Naza football club were also among those who paid their respects.

Shortly after the body arrived, students from the Madrasah Sheikh Mohamad Salahuddin Al-Amin from Hulu Langat and Madrasah Al-Rahmaniah from Bukit Beruntung read the `surah Yaasin’.

At about 2.30 pm, the body was brought into the mosque for the funeral prayer.

The body was later taken to the Batu 9 Muslim Cemetery, Kampung Melaka, Hulu Langat where Nasimuddin was buried beside the grave of his mother, Salbiah Abdul Majid.

Nasimuddin, 53, died at a private hospital in Long Beach, LA where he was receiving treatment for lung cancer since January.
